Use Industry Keywords to Catch the Recruiter's Eye
With recruiters receiving hundreds of emails on a weekly basis and thousands posted on line, the thought of standing out can feel a little overwhelming. So how do you get noticed?
One of the top ways to get your resume noticed is to have the right keywords. Keywords can be the name of your profession as well as buzzwords that are often used in your professional field. If you’re just making your way into a profession, and do not have much experience, then use school experiences to include keywords. For example, if you’re in the marketing profession, have a section of the resume with courses taken. Then, list: marketing managing, digital marketing, search engine optimization, etc. If you did not have many school experiences, list any formal or informal marketing jobs that you’ve had and load your bullet points with words specific to the industry.
Also, be sure to also have a computer skills section and list every bit of software that you’ve used that may be relevant to your professional area. For the marketing example, if a recruiter is looking for someone with specific knowledge in a software like Indesign or video editing software, your resume will pop in their search list. The more keywords used, the more appealing.
Updating your resume to include these changes can be a little tedious at first, but definitely worth it!
