Whether you’re looking to meet new professionals, to get promoted or to have new job options, one of the best things you can do for yourself is network. You never know when an opportunity may fall into your lap, just by being connected or being in the right place at the right time. Although it may feel a little awkward to put yourself or there, it’s really not that bad. Here a few fun and creative ways to network.

1) Invite old or current coworkers out for drinks.

Networking can be as easy as staying in touch. People can’t help but to talk about their jobs over drinks and it’s a great way to know what’s happening at a company and if they could be hiring.

2) If you can find a cool leader in the company, ask them out to lunch. They probably would be flattered to share some knowledge. Always remember, the worst they can say is no. So what's the harm in asking? Think of a few questions in advance before meeting, so you leave with the info that you were looking to seek.

3) Volunteer doing something you enjoy.

You can meet a ton of new people by volunteering. Volunteers come from many different walks of life, but serve the same purpose when working together. So it's a great time to bond with new people, learn about them and some of their career choices. You never know where that connection could lead.

4) Connect via social media

This one should be pretty easy. Who doesn't have at least one social media account? Well if you don't, no worries. Setting one up is super simple and free :-). If you don't have a LinkedIn account, consider getting one. Reach out to people you don't know and stay in touch with those that you do. Linkedin is specifically targeted for professional networking, so that's why I mentioned this one first. Instagram, Facebook and Twitter can also be great platforms to use for networking as well.

5) Attend industry events

Regardless of your industry, there is most likely at least one organization that meets monthly or annually. Get involved and join a group. You will definitely rub elbows with others on a similar track or further along than you. They'll have good insights on other career options and maybe even leads on new jobs.

So there it is— 5 creative and easy ways to network. Do you have any additional ways of networking that you'd like to share?
